Greece! Perissa Beach, Oia, and Cheeky Volcanic Lizards

Now to the pretty pictures! Lots of pretty pictures.

Even though I prefer the lovely beach of Ios, I do admit that the beach in Santorini really is pretty. There are a few beaches in Santorini, but the only one we visited was Perissa, the one near our hostel.

The sand is black and very, very pebbly for the most part-- really hard to walk in. Once you were actually out in the water, it felt like walking on uneven, mossy cement. That's what happens with volcanic beaches, I suppose. We did find one area that was more sandy and a lot easier to stroll along, so that was nice. The water was quite a bit warmer than it was in Ios, too, so it was nice to wade in

One of the main towns is called Oia (pronounced "Ia"). It's very pretty, but very touristy. Pictures!

rainbow!

One morning, we took a little trip to the volcano that formed Santorini. Partway up the hill mountain, though, I had to stop and hide under an umbrella because my rash was starting to come back. Britt soldiered on and got some excellent pictures. Meanwhile, I had a lizard crawl up my leg. It was a good afternoon for everyone.

We walked aaaall the way down there.

and we had to share the road with mules, which I was clearly having none of. Photo by Britt.

Out of the way, mule! Photo by Britt.

Here is our ride to the volcano. I wasn't a big fan, but it did get us there safely. Photo by Britt.

This is the lizard that crawled up my leg. Cheeky devil.
Fira is also a pretty town, perched on the edge of a cliff.

Fira had some very nice museums with some examples of wall art, sculpture, and pottery.
