top fiveish: my top five favorite earth-related things

happy earth day! to celebrate forty years of earth-loving tree-hugging, today's top fiveish will be my top five favorite earth-related things.  (i know, it's a really vague category, but what do you want from me? logic?)

5: "i feel the earth move" by carol king

 oh come on.  it's earth-related!

 4: handkerchiefs

this is one of a few things that i've done to help lessen my impact on our planet and on my wallet. fewer disposable tissues used means fewer trees cut down and just a little less garbage in the dumps. added bonus: they're charming and way softer than tissues. (photo found on weheartit. those aren't actually my handkerchiefs, though i wish they were.)

3: locally-grown produce and locally-made products

this is another thing i've picked up on. eating locally-grown produce and purchasing locally-made products means someone didn't have to fly it across the world, which means less fuel was used to get it from the farm to you. plus it means you're keeping your money in your own community and helping your neighbors, which i think is very important. (photo found on weheartit.)

2: trees

i love trees-- particularly big, gnarled trees that have obviously been around a long time. when i was growing up, there was this huge behemoth of a tree on the township property across the creek from my house. it had a hole in the base that looked like it was a forgotten entrance to narnia, and i was in love with it. i'm also in love with the huge tree outside of the main lodge in zion national park.  my favorite jewelry involves trees, my favorite paintings involve trees (see above for van gogh's "almond blossom").  trees trees trees.  trees.

1: zion national park

the happiest place on earth. over the past year, i've been to zion four times.  at least.  and that's just in the past year.  i don't even know how many times i've been there over the course of my life. i just feel so safe here, so peaceful. i love it.
